Pastrami Reuben Sandwich Recipe
| January 4, 2012 | Posted by Good Eats Cafe under Sandwiches |
I find Reuben sandwiches to be absolutely delicious. I prepare them for myself at home quite often. Here is the recipe I use when making a Reuben at home. I prefer to make my Reuben with pastrami instead of corned beef as I prefer the flavor of pastrami. If you wish to make a corned beef Reuben then it is quite easy to substitute the pastrami for corned beef. In this recipe I simplify the recipe by using pastrami purchased at a deli. If you are adventurous, you can make your own pastrami and use it in the sandwich.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 5 minutes
Ready in: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
1/3 pound of thinly sliced Pastrami
2 slices of rye bread
¼ cup of sauerkraut
1 tablespoon of melted butter
1 slice Swish cheese
1 tablespoon of Russian dressing or horseradish mayonnaise sauce
Cooking Method:
1. Preheat a sandwich griddle or a frying pan to medium heat.
2. Spread Russian dressing or horseradish mayonnaise on one side of one the pieces of rye bread.
3. Layer the Pastrami slice by slice on top of the piece of bread.
4. Add the Swiss cheese on top of the pastrami.
5. Add the sauerkraut on top of the Swiss cheese.
6. Top it off with the other slice of rye bread.
7. Use a brush or spoon to coat each side of the sandwich with butter.
8. Cook in the preheated sandwich griddle or frying pan until each side is golden brown.
9. Cut the sandwich and serve.
Tips:
The most important tip for this recipe is to make sure your sauerkraut does not contain a lot of liquid. If the sauerkraut does contain a lot of liquid, the bread will become soggy and it will ruin the texture. Use a strainer and press the liquid out of the sauerkraut if too much liquid is present.
